1.   Where can you find the OHS policies for SBIT Employees and Students?

Under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995


2.   Identify three ways you could communicate these policies to SBIT Employees and Students?

Provide training courses for new and current staff periodically.

Have signs and posters around the area to ensure everyone is reminded of them.

Have information such as records and pamphlets to hand out to staff and students.

3.   Explain what is meant by “Duty of Care”.

Duty of Care means to do everything within your power to remove risk from the workplace. This can be done by implementing practices and training to ensure that accidents, illnesses and injuries do not happen.

5.   What is the role of Safe Work Australia?

Safe Work Australia works to:

·        Coordinate and develop national policy and strategies

·        Assist with the implementation of model work health and safety legislation and reform the legislative framework

·        Undertake research, and

·        Collect, analyse and report data.


6.   What is the purpose of the “New National OHS Framework?

The National OHS Strategy 2002-2012vprovides the framework for collective efforts to improve Australia's work health and safety performance [SafetyWorkAustralia, http://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/sites/swa/statistics/ohs-target-measurements/pages/ohs-strategy-measurement, 2014].

The new framework will focus on annual handling (body stressing) falls, and being hit by or hitting an object. The Act will also prioritise on Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry Construction Health & community services Manufacturing, and transport & storage industry

Report B: Hazard report form

In the previous task you identified all the hazards in your immediate work environment. This task requires that you identify a minimum of three hazards and recommend specific actions.

Hazard 1 Details:

1.     Description of Hazard:

There is sufficient space for each person to work safely. The H Block art room is very cluttered. In the back where we have to collect our work the space is small and hard to manoeuvre around.


2.     Risk Score:  5

3.  Immediate actions that can be taken:

The space will need to be cleaned.


4.  Further Recommendations for Rectification:

Some of the items in the back such as the cabinets can be moved to make space.



Hazard 2 Details:

1.     Description of Hazard:

Safety rules and evacuation routes are prominently displayed. Some of the signs are a bit worn and the words are small.


2.     Risk Score: 6

3.  Immediate actions that can be taken:
Change the signs and make them bigger.

4.  Further Recommendations for Rectification:
None.

Hazard 3 Details:

1.     Description of Hazard:

Floor surfaces are maintained in a safe condition however; some of the corners in the art room carpet come up and snag the whiteboard and shoes when you walk past.


2.   Risk Score:  4

3.  Immediate actions that can be taken:
Fixing the carpet

4.  Further Recommendations for Rectification:
Until the carpet can be fixed place hazard signs or a mat over the turned up carpet.

Move all cabinets to other corners of room where there are more room and its more easily accessible.
